Mission: STEAM Kids Lab,LLC intends to provide tools to teach children essential 21st century skills including creativity, innovation, team work, critical thinking, communications skills, and adaptability. Our hope is that as a result of taking our courses a child will foster a deep love of science,technology.engineering, the arts and math and pursue a professional career in one or more of these fields. By introducing computer science, engineering, and science topics at an early age, we hope to build on their curiosity, and create critical thinkers who will lead us in the future.
Vision: STEAM Kids Lab,LLC is an leading educational provider of enrichment workshops in science,technology, engineering, math and arts intergrated courses that will give students the resources to give them a head start on their career paths. We aim to prepare our future leaders, with a strong foundation academically through tutoring and project based learning programs to assist them towards a successful road in their lives.
Jeri Snead- Pierre our founder, is an explorer, and creative person by nature. Trained as a professional actor, director and acting coach, holds a Bachelor's of Science in Communications and minor in Business Management, from St. John's University. She began her idea of STEAM Kids Lab, from a need that was not being met in her community in Midtown Manhattan. The school that her son was attending, Success Academy- Hell's Kitchen, had asked families to help find quality after-school programming. This was no easy task, because of their untraditional school schedule, working parents have very few good options. As a mom, she knew what she would want in a high quality workshop. Taking some input from her 7 year-old son Matthew, who loves science and her 9 year-old daughter Nyla, who is an incredible artist, she knew that her program could satisfy both high performing scholars and brillant artists along with their discerning parents. STEAM Kids Lab, LLC was born! Jeri did not make up the acroymn STEAM, just as she did not create the acroymn STEM. These educational concepts have been around for many years, dating as far back as the 14th century, when DaVinci was painting and looking at the stars. Recently, in 2006 a STEM educator and an award-winning entrepreneur, Georgette Yakman evolved this framework called STEAM education.
Today, as Mom of 2, Snead-Pierre wanted her children to have a place to be groomed and develop both sides of their brains, (left logic and right/creative) the way she had been. Although her children are in excellent high performing elementary schools, there was a need to be filled, which STEAM Kids Lab provides for every child who comes through their doors.
In 1995, she founded and directed, a successful youth theater summer camp called Jamboree.
Jeri also taught children, youth and adults acting classes at the Jamaica Arts Center, in Queens, NY
as well as at the PAL Duncan Center in Midtown Manhattan.
In 2004, she taught on-camera acting at the John Robert Powers school in Miami, FL and to private clients.
During her adolescence, she was a member of the Black Spectrum theater company, in her hometown, St. Albans, Queens, NY. This theater company program provided her with a one- of-a kind after school experience. Ultimately it nurtured, validated her gifts, and provided her with a safe space to be creative. After over 20 years in the theater, she wanted to give this same type of inspirational experience back to young people and motivate them to their highest potential through STEAM(Science,Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math). Developing an arts appreciation and learning technology skills make a fertile ground forjob growth in the 21st century.
STEAM Kids Lab can make a difference your childrens' paths to the future. STEAM Kids Lab lessons integrate STEM subjects with the arts, for a deeper and richer interdisplinary connection! Kids get to tinker and make Lego projects, kids will perform and write their own plays with their knowledge of science facts. Art and math will be explored in a completely new way, by integratng the two disciplines to make amazing art and design pieces.
